Student Services

School Psychologist

Mrs Michelle Babich is our school psychologist. As part of our SAER (Students at Educational Risk) policy, students who need additional support are identified and referred to the SAER team.

Mrs Babich works closely with teachers, parents, external agencies and the SAER team to support our students.

Mrs Babich also provides parent sessions such as the Triple P (Positive Parent Program).

Child Health Nurse

Our clinical health nurse is Manon Spronk. Clinical Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counselling and referral. They promote healthy development and well being so students may reach their full potential.

A major part of their work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program. The service is free and confidential.

If you have any concern about your child’s health or development please contact Manon through our school office or at Community Health Base on 9314 0100.

Wellbeing Officer (Thursdays)

Anastasia is our wellbeing officer. She works closely supporting a range of students and is also available to support parents.

Should you wish to access support from Anastasia, please call the front office to make an appointment.

Ed Connect Volunteers and Mentors

We are fortunate to have the support of an EdConnect volunteers, who works alongside staff to provide additional assistance to students at point of need. This includes mentoring support for identified students, helping to build confidence, connection and positive relationships, as well as providing additional classroom support where needed.

The EdConnect program is another way we are able to strengthen individualised support and provide students with additional opportunities to feel connected and successful at school.

Counselling and Speech Pathology Students

We are pleased to be partnering with local universities and service providers to offer additional support for our students throughout the remainder of 2026.

Counselling Support
Asiri Ravi, known to students as Ravi, is completing his Master of Counselling through the University of Notre Dame Australia. Ravi is based at Newton Primary School two days each week and will continue working with us until the end of the year, providing additional wellbeing and counselling support to students.

Speech Pathology Support
We also welcome two Speech Pathology students each week through Curtin University, in partnership with Fremantle Speech Pathology. They attend Newton one day per week and work with students to support speech, language and communication development. Our Speech Pathology students change each university term, allowing Newton to continue offering this additional support across the year.
