Performing Arts

Performing Arts at Newton Primary School gives students opportunities to build confidence, creativity and self-expression through Music and Drama.

Students from Years 1–6 participate in a weekly specialist program where they develop skills in singing, rhythm, composition, performance, movement, improvisation and dramatic expression. They learn to work both independently and collaboratively, building confidence in performing for others.

Our well-equipped Music room allows students to explore keyboards, guitars, recorders and a wide range of percussion instruments, while Drama provides opportunities to develop imagination, communication and storytelling skills.

Choir

Students also have the opportunity to participate in our Junior and Senior Choirs. Our choirs perform at school assemblies, special events and community occasions, including the annual MASSed Choir Festival and our ANZAC Day Service.

Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS)

Selected students in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in the Department of Education’s Instrumental Music School Services program. Students receive specialist small-group tuition in instruments offered through the program, including flute, brass, guitar and clarinet.
